Create a list of mini adventures

Take out a sheet of paper, or start a list on your phone, of all of the little adventures you can possibly think of within a one hour drive from home. The “adventures” don’t have to be expensive or extravagant, but they do have to be a little out of the ordinary for your normal daily or weekly life.

Consider including:

  • Parks
  • Museums
  • Bookshops
  • Concert venues (large or small)
  • Coffee shops
  • Restaurants (new, renowned or even dives!)
  • Hikes, trails or mountains
  • Movie theaters
  • Performance spaces (live theater, symphonies, operas, etc.)
  • Spas or retreats

This is the beginning of a list of possible dates with yourself. The next time your friends or coworkers ask about your weekend plans, you’ll have a sizable list of things you can tell them you’re thinking of doing.

Imagine: “I’m thinking of treating myself to a massage and a play this weekend.”

Or: “I’ve got this hike mapped out and I hear the views from the peak are amazing. Afterwards, I’ll stop in town at this little bar I found on Yelp. You wouldn’t believe it, but a zydeco band will be playing that night!”

On Monday, they’ll expect a full report. And you’ll also be providing yourself with valuable experiences, self-care and attention!

So, what are your plans for this weekend?
